This Spooky Bloody Halloween Punch is the non-alcoholic drink that makes kids feel like they’re getting away with something delightfully creepy, and it lets the adults enjoy the party without worrying about who’s driving home. It’s the kind of recipe that builds a memory, one ghoulishly good sip at a time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 64 ounces (1.89 liters) cranberry juice cocktail
  • 32 ounces (946 ml) pineapple juice
  • 12 ounces (355 ml) frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
  • 4 cups (960 ml) ginger ale
  • 1 to 2 cups frozen lychees (canned, drained)
  • 1 small can (about 15 oz) of pitted black olives
  • A handful of gummy worms
  • 1 to 2 cups frozen raspberries
  • 1 latex or nitrile glove
  • Water
  • Red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Make the Frozen Bloody Hand (Do This the Night Before): Wash a latex glove thoroughly. Fill it with water, leaving a little room at the top for the water to expand as it freezes. Add 4-5 drops of red food coloring. Tie the wrist of the glove closed with a twist tie or a rubber band. Lay it flat on a baking sheet in the freezer overnight.
  2. Make the ‘Eyeballs’: Drain your canned lychees. Take a small pitted black olive and gently push it into the hole of the lychee. The lychee becomes the white of the eye, and the olive is the pupil. Place them on a plate and set them aside. You can make these a few hours ahead and keep them in the fridge.
  3. Prepare the Punch Base: In your large punch bowl, combine the cranberry juice, pineapple juice, and thawed limeade concentrate. Stir well with a long spoon until the limeade is completely dissolved. This is your ‘blood’ base. You can do this step up to a day in advance and just keep the bowl covered in the fridge.
  4. Add the Garnishes (Just Before Serving): Gently drop in your lychee eyeballs, frozen raspberries, and a few gummy worms. Let some of the gummy worms hang over the edge of the bowl for a truly creepy effect.
  5. Add the Fizz and the Ice: Just before your guests arrive, pour in the ginger ale. Give it a gentle stir. Now, carefully peel the frozen hand out of the latex glove. It might take a little wiggling. Place the hand in the center of the punch bowl, fingers up. It will slowly melt, keeping the punch cold without watering it down too quickly.
  6. Serve with a Ladle: Provide a ladle and some spooky cups. I like to use clear plastic cups so you can see the eyeballs floating inside.

Notes

Don’t add the ginger ale too early or it will go flat. If the ice hand is too big for your bowl, you can break off a couple of fingers before placing it in. The limeade is key for balancing sweetness; adjust with fresh lime juice or simple syrup as needed. You can mix the base up to two days in advance. For a less sweet option, use no-sugar-added cranberry juice and diet ginger ale.
