A festive and refreshing sangria featuring red, white, and blue fruits with a unique twist of star fruit, perfect for celebrations and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry red wine (Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) crisp white wine (Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio)
  • 2 medium star fruits, sliced into thin stars
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1 cup white grapes, halved
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 large lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup club soda or sparkling water, chilled
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup (homemade or store-bought)
  • Optional: 1/4 cup brandy or orange liqueur (like Triple Sec)

Instructions

  1. Rinse all fresh fruit well. Slice the star fruit crosswise into thin, star-shaped pieces. Hull and slice the strawberries, halve the white grapes, and thinly slice the orange and lemon.
  2. Layer the fruit in a large pitcher starting with strawberries at the bottom for the red layer, then add a layer of white grapes and star fruit for the white layer, and top with blueberries for the blue layer.
  3. Pour the red and white wines gently over the fruit layers to keep the colors somewhat distinct. Add the orange and lemon slices on top. If using brandy or orange liqueur, stir it in now.
  4. Stir in the simple syrup to taste. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably 4, to let the flavors marry and the fruit infuse the wine.
  5. Just before serving, add the chilled club soda or sparkling water for a refreshing fizz. Stir gently and pour into glasses, making sure each gets some star fruit slices.

Notes

Chill the sangria for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to meld; add sparkling water just before serving to keep fizz. Thinly slice star fruit for best presentation and flavor release. Avoid over-stirring to maintain layered look. Can be made non-alcoholic by substituting wines with grape juices.
