A festive and easy-to-assemble patriotic charcuterie board designed to look like a flag, perfect for summer celebrations and casual entertaining.

Ingredients

  • Fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • Cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Red bell pepper slices
  • Fresh mozzarella balls or sliced mozzarella
  • Cottage cheese or ricotta cheese (optional)
  • Cauliflower florets (lightly steamed or raw)
  • White cheddar or Havarti cheese, sliced
  • Fresh blueberries
  • Blackberries or purple grapes (optional)
  • Fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs
  • Sliced salami (preferably thinly sliced Genoa salami)
  • Capicola or prosciutto
  • Assorted crackers (multigrain and water crackers)
  • Baguette slices, lightly toasted
  • Honey or fig jam (optional)
  • Almonds or walnuts

Instructions

  1. Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly. Slice strawberries, cherry tomatoes, red bell peppers, and cheeses into bite-sized pieces. Lightly toast baguette slices if using. Set aside meats and cheeses.
  2. Arrange blueberries tightly together in the top left corner of the board to form the blue canton of the flag. Garnish with rosemary or thyme sprigs to mimic stars.
  3. Create alternating red and white stripes starting from the top right side of the board moving downward. Use sliced strawberries, cherry tomatoes, and red bell peppers for red stripes; use mozzarella, cauliflower florets, and white cheddar for white stripes. Keep rows straight and close together.
  4. Fold or roll slices of salami and prosciutto and tuck them between or alongside the stripes for texture and flavor contrast.
  5. Position crackers and toasted baguette slices along edges or empty spaces. Drizzle honey or fig jam over cheese if desired.
  6. Scatter nuts over the board for added crunch. Adjust any ingredients to maintain a balanced and colorful display.

Notes

Assemble the board shortly before serving to keep fruits fresh and cheeses from sweating. Pat strawberries dry to avoid soggy spots. Leave some breathing room on the board to keep it inviting. For gluten-free, substitute crackers and bread with gluten-free options. For vegetarian, swap meats with marinated artichokes, olives, or roasted red peppers. Store crackers separately from leftovers to keep them crisp.
