A giant, shareable chocolate chip cookie baked in a cast iron skillet and shaped like a football. It’s rich, buttery, and perfectly gooey with melty chocolate in every bite—the ultimate easy dessert for game day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (100g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups (180g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups (260g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons white chocolate chips, melted (for laces, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place a 10-inch cast iron skillet inside while preheating.
  2. In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt ½ cup unsalted butter in 20-second intervals. Let cool for 2 minutes.
  3. Add ½ cup granulated sugar and ½ cup packed light brown sugar to the melted butter. Whisk vigorously for 30 seconds until smooth and slightly thickened.
  4. Add 1 room-temperature egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Whisk until pale and glossy, about 1 minute.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon baking soda, and ½ teaspoon salt.
  6. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Fold gently with a rubber spatula until just combined (a few streaks of flour are okay).
  7. Fold in 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, reserving ¼ cup to press on top later.
  8. Carefully remove hot skillet from oven. Transfer dough into skillet and press into a football shape (pointed ends, wider middle), about ½-inch thick.
  9. Bake for 14-16 minutes until edges are golden and center is soft and puffy. For extra gooey, bake 14 minutes.
  10. Cool in skillet on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Melt 2 tablespoons white chocolate chips in microwave (15-second intervals). Pipe 5-6 short lines across the middle for laces. Let set 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For an extra gooey center, pull the cookie out at the 14-minute mark. Let the melted butter cool for at least 2 minutes before adding the egg to avoid a greasy texture. Preheating the skillet creates crispier edges. The cookie is best served warm with vanilla ice cream.
