  • 20 cherry tomatoes, washed and dried
  • 20 small fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini)
  • 20 fresh basil leaves, rinsed and patted dry
  • 34 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • About 20 wooden toothpicks or mini bamboo skewers

Instructions

  1. Rinse cherry tomatoes and basil leaves under cold water. Pat dry thoroughly to prevent sogginess. Drain mozzarella balls and gently pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss the mozzarella balls and cherry tomatoes with 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of salt, and freshly ground black pepper.
  3. Take a toothpick or mini skewer and thread one cherry tomato first, followed by a fresh basil leaf (folded if large), then finish with a mozzarella ball. Repeat until all ingredients are used. Adjust size by halving tomato or mozzarella if needed.
  4. Lay the assembled skewers neatly on your serving platter. Using a spoon or squeeze bottle, drizzle the balsamic glaze over the skewers just before serving.
  5. Optionally, sprinkle a little flaky sea salt or cracked black pepper on top for extra texture. Serve immediately or keep chilled up to 30 minutes before guests arrive.

Notes

Assemble skewers without balsamic glaze up to 2 hours in advance and add glaze just before serving to keep fresh. Pat all ingredients dry to avoid sogginess. Use fresh small mozzarella balls for best texture. Drizzle balsamic glaze sparingly to avoid overpowering flavors.
