easy freezer PB&J sandwiches - featured image

A quick and easy recipe for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that can be frozen individually for convenient grab-and-go snacks. Perfect for busy mornings, school lunches, or last-minute snack emergencies.

Ingredients

  • White or whole wheat bread (soft sandwich bread, sturdy brand recommended)
  • Peanut butter (smooth or crunchy, natural with no added sugar recommended)
  • Jelly or jam (grape, strawberry, or any favorite flavor)
  • Optional: Butter or margarine (thin spread to prevent sogginess)

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients and equipment. Lay out your bread slices on a clean cutting board.
  2. Optional: Lightly spread a thin layer of butter or margarine on one side of each bread slice to create a moisture barrier.
  3. Spread about 2 tablespoons (30g) of peanut butter evenly on half of the bread slices.
  4. Spread about 1 tablespoon (15g) of jelly or jam on the corresponding slices. Avoid overfilling.
  5. Place the peanut butter slices on top of the jelly slices, buttered sides facing out if butter was used.
  6. Optional: Trim crusts if desired.
  7. Wrap each sandwich tightly in parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  8. Lay the wrapped sandwiches flat on a baking sheet or tray and freeze for 1-2 hours until firm.
  9. Transfer frozen sandwiches to a freezer-safe zip-top bag, squeeze out excess air, and seal.
  10. Label the bag with the date and store in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Notes

Spreading a thin layer of butter or peanut butter on the bread slices acts as a moisture barrier to prevent sogginess. Wrap sandwiches individually before freezing to avoid sticking. Use sturdy sandwich bread for best texture after freezing. Thaw sandwiches at room temperature for 10-15 minutes or microwave for 20-30 seconds. Avoid overheating to keep bread soft.
