A nostalgic, sweet-and-salty Halloween snack mix featuring crunchy popcorn, chewy candy corn, and a light buttery caramel glaze. Perfect for movie nights, parties, or a cozy autumn evening.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels (or 1 bag plain, air-popped popcorn)
  • 1 cup candy corn
  • 1/4 cup salted butter (4 tablespoons)
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
  • 1/2 cup optional mix-ins: mini pretzels, salted peanuts, or roasted pumpkin seeds

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn: Place 1/2 cup popcorn kernels in a large pot with 2 tablespoons neutral oil (coconut or avocado). Cover and heat over medium-high heat, shaking occasionally. Once popping slows to 2 seconds between pops, remove from heat. Pour into a large mixing bowl, removing any unpopped kernels.
  2. Make the glaze: In a small saucepan, melt 1/4 cup salted butter over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Whisk constantly until sugar dissolves and mixture is smooth and bubbly (about 2 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  3. Coat the popcorn: Drizzle warm glaze over popcorn. Gently toss with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula until every kernel is lightly coated.
  4. Add candy and mix-ins: Sprinkle 1 cup candy corn and optional mix-ins (e.g., 1/2 cup mini pretzels) over coated popcorn. Toss gently to distribute evenly.
  5. Spread to cool: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Spread popcorn mix in a single, even layer. Let cool completely, undisturbed, for at least 10 minutes.
  6. Taste and adjust: Once cooled, add a pinch of flaky sea salt if desired. Break up any large clumps with your fingers.

Notes

Use fresh candy corn for best texture. Avoid butter-flavored microwave popcorn. The popcorn will feel soft after glazing but will crisp up as it cools. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. To refresh crunch, spread on a baking sheet and warm at 300°F (150°C) for 5 minutes.
